Tower Ridge Overview

Tower Ridge on Ben Nevis is one of Britain’s most iconic and longest climbing routes, offering an exciting adventure on the mountain’s North Face. This classic ridge stands boldly, dividing the face into two dramatic halves, and is a favourite for climbers looking for an unforgettable experience. With a Tower Ridge guide, you can take on this incredible challenge with confidence.

With a distance of just over half a kilometre at 600 meters, Tower Ridge keeps you engaged at every step and would not look out of place in the Alps. Highlights of this incredible ridge include the Little Tower, the Great Tower, and the Eastern Traverse, leading to the dramatic Tower Gap near the summit. With expert guidance from a qualified North West Mountaineering professional, you’ll navigate these exciting features safely while making the most of your climb.

Finishing almost on the summit of Ben Nevis, Tower Ridge offers a quieter, more adventurous ascent compared to the busy Mountain Track. It’s a demanding but rewarding route, perfect for those with prior scrambling experience, a reasonable level of fitness, and a good head for heights.

Guided climbs of Tower Ridge are available all year round, becoming much more challenging in winter. Prices start at £320, with equipment hire available for both summer and winter. Book your Tower Ridge guide today and experience one of the most exciting and classic routes on Ben Nevis!

Something here about booking

  • Guided Ascent of Tower Ridge

Tower Ridge on Ben Nevis is one of the most iconic and sought-after climbing routes in the UK, offering an exciting blend of adventure, challenge, and breathtaking scenery around the North Face of Ben Nevis. For climbers and mountaineers, this legendary ridge is an unforgettable experience, and with a Tower Ridge guide, you can safely navigate its exciting terrain and make the most of your day on the mountain.

  • We’ll start our day at the North Face car park near Torlundy, a 15 minute drive from Fort William town centre. From here, we’ll follow the scenic North Face trail to the CIC Hut, nestled at the base of Ben Nevis’ towering cliffs. This iconic hut provides breathtaking views of the dramatic ridges, including our route for the day—Tower Ridge.

From here, the scale of the climb becomes clear, but the real adventure is only just beginning. As we make our way to the ridge, we'll cross rugged terrain to reach the starting point near the Douglas Boulder. Once on Tower Ridge, we’ll encounter a series of unforgettable challenges: the Little Tower, the Eastern Traverse, and the infamous Tower Gap, all of which add excitement and variety to the climb. Every step is an achievement, with incredible views and additional challenges that make this route so memorable.

Reaching the top of Tower Ridge brings us close to the summit of Ben Nevis, where you can stop to soak in the accomplishment. We'll likely descend back to the car park via the Mountain track, before cutting across rugged moorland to pick up the North Face Trail once again.

Guided ascents of Tower Ridge are available year-round, with each season offering a unique take on this classic climb. Booking a Ben Nevis guide with Northwest Mountaineering ensures you’ll have the expertise and local knowledge to tackle the route safely while safely enjoying every moment of this unforgettable adventure.
