Whether you aim to push your grade, climb more challenging winter routes, or build confidence on Scotland’s iconic snow, ice, and mixed routes, our highly qualified and experienced instructors are here to guide you. From seconding routes graded II to V to exploring technical climbs beyond your comfort zone, our tailored guidance will help you refine your climbing techniques, improve your movement skills, and gain valuable experience on diverse winter terrain. Our guided climbing days are the perfect opportunity to safely achieve your climbing goals while developing the skills and confidence to take on harder routes in the future. For guided winter climbing you'll need summer rock climbing and winter walking experience (know how to use crampons & Ice axe). We also offer winter skills courses and winter mountaineering courses to help build skills.

From the popular Northern Corries to the dramatic cliffs of Creag Meagaidh, these areas provide exciting opportunities for winter climbers.

     

    At Northwest Mountaineering, our guided winter climbing days allow you to explore these iconic locations safely and confidently, supported by expert guidance and tailored to your ambitions.

    The Northern Corries of the Cairngorms, including Coire an t-Sneachda and Coire an Lochain, are renowned for their reliability and accessibility. These venues feature routes for climbers of all abilities, from introductory gullies like Jacob’s Ladder (Grade I) and The Runnel (Grade II) to more technical climbs such as Invernookie (Grade IV), Hidden Chimney (Grade III), and the mixed classic The Seam (Grade IV). For those seeking a greater challenge, theres the iconic Savage Slit (Grade V) on Coire an Lochain, combining steep, exposed climbing with breathtaking views.

    Further west, Creag Meagaidh offers a remote and wild climbing experience. Known for its towering cliffs and impressive snow and ice routes, it’s a must-visit destination for winter climbers, when in condition. Standout climbs include the classic Centre Post (Grade III) and the sweeping lines of Raeburn’s Gully (Grade I) and Staghorn Gully (Grade III). This area’s rugged beauty and varied terrain make it ideal for a more adventurous and immersive day out.
